WORKING WITH INTENTION AND ATTENTION:
We continue to work with Vinyasa (flowing with the breath) to keep prana (living energy) rising and directing energy upwards in our whole being all of which we aim to practice with attention.
Working with awareness assists in helping our minds settle as we pay attention to the body sensations, the breath, the mind, the nervous system and the heart space even when paying attention can be demanding. As we listen more deeply to the deeper feedback from our being, which doesn’t always have words in which to describe sensations, we travel the greater our awareness to what is really going on inside our whole being not merely our beings response to external stimuli of daily life:
‘This ‘paying attention’ does not mean simply giving free rein to our various likes and dislikes, but instead requires us to become alive to the sensations within our bodies, the patterns of our breathing and, perhaps most importantly, the ever-changing contents of our minds. In modern life, with all its demands, variety, and overwhelming sensory stimulation, it is easy to find ourselves simply responding to and negotiating the external world, with little attention to what is going on inside.’
Yoga practices, over time, help us to reach our ‘new state’ wherein lies positive change for the whole of our being. This begins with the intention to connect and the intention to continue to practice.
With practice comes progress and making any shift is yoga particularly in regard to the state of our mind, is worth the effort!
This is what yoga means! To make a shift to a deeper connection within:
Thus, another useful definition of yoga here is ‘reaching a new state’ or ‘effecting positive change’. As long as we feel we have made some shift in our state of mind, we have practised yoga.
The shift may take a while or move easily within us but in all instances we need to maintain our practise and connection on a daily basis not just on the yoga mat in a yoga class and allow yoga into our everyday until it becomes a way of life!
And of course, we will continue to work with building strength relative to wherever the body, mind, breath and being are in any given moment.
Shanti Om
