‘The nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body.’ Jason Crandell
We will begin working with twists this coming Monday as twists, like all other movements of the spine, stimulate! Stimulate the spine, nervous system, mind, breath, and energetic system.
Setting intention, as I mentioned last week, is important but not becoming obsessed with instant results but rather listening to the whole body and responding accordingly in each moment.
Working towards getting into the subtle parts of our being, to shine light to the deepest parts of which we are not yet aware or connected.
All yoga practices take time, effort, and energy on a steady path towards the Self.
Through yoga practices we learn to listen to what the body is saying and if the body is feeling out of balance then our efforts should focus on listening to the feedback from our whole being not just what the mind is perceiving! Do we want to be truly nurtured in our body and mind?
Yoga is a daily practice where what we learn and grow into on the mat, we can take out into daily life steadily, one step at a time.
“New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.” Lao Tzu
Sometimes we just have to let go, to put something down so we can pick up something new and always in hind sight it was the best thing to do, but never in that moment which is why yoga practices can help us to see the bigger picture, free our perspective, help us to take a breath and step back so that we can see things as they really are and not what we are thinking that they are or should be in that moment.
Pain, fear, sadness are all the things that keep us from living every day and instead of running away from them and wanting to “start afresh” perhaps we can grow from them, or learn from them - the difference is of course that when we have power over the mind there we will find strength:
“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realise this, and you will find strength.” Marcus Aurelius
So, let’s wring out the spine, ease out any tension and any old habits of thinking and being and begin to shine the light of awareness!
Namaste
