Namaste all,
Yoga tomorrow as usual at Greasby Centre, 11.15a.m. where, as always, we build on Dharana (concentration, focus and willpower), strength and flexibility relative to where the body, breath and mind lie in any given moment.
Dharana is usually translated as “concentration.” In Sutra 3.1 of the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali defines dharana as “the binding of the mind to a single point of focus.”
Therefore, as best we can in any given moment, we are always working towards developing our inner awareness of our whole being through single pointed focus which of course we all need to practise from a moment-to-moment point of view.
The mind is a curious place being both incredible but also often unhelpful!
The practices of yoga can calm and discipline the mind so that we can experience our lives fully rather than being caught up in the stories the mind likes to tell from its perception in any given moment.
Complicated, yet simple and as simple as using the breath as the anchor to keep the mind firmly focussed not only in the body and body sensations but also the present moment.
Attached 2 practices, one a yoga practice (one I made many years ago) feel free to leave our any asana that does not suit and of course modify accordingly, and a breathing practice to help calm the body and still the mind.
Enjoy!
Shanti Om
Sue 🙏
